Smoking Kratom in 2020: Pro’s & Con’s

An introduction to Smoking Kratom

Kratom has been around for a number of years. Yet it has recently seen a surge in popularity. Not only does this apply to recreational drug users, but to those interested in the potential benefits of kratom. This compelling cross-section of interests and needs has created a compelling narrative in the present. Whether or not smoking kratom is right for you will ultimately come down to careful research and consideration. This is particularly true of anyone who is considering the notion of smoking this member of the coffee family.

There are several different ways to smoke kratom. That said, the two main methods in practice are to utilize kratom as either a powder (which can be added to a number of things, including smoothies and coffee), or as a capsule. Smoking is an option, as well, although not a particularly common one.

This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad idea. You simply want to be certain that it is the right method for you, in terms of what you want from using kratom in the first place. Some do indeed claim that smoking it is the best way to engage its numerous benefits.

Is this true? Let’s take a closer look.

History

In terms of kratom and smoking, we don’t have a lot of specific history of the practice to fall back on. It is likely that smoking the drug was perhaps explored as far back as a century or so ago, but no one can truly say for sure. We have a much clearer idea of the history of kratom use in general. Its popularity through the centuries is such that it is safe to assume that it has been smoked at different points in its relationship to humanity.

The modern history of kratom dates back to roughly the 19th century. Also known as Mitragyna speciosa, the plant was popular among farmers in countries such as Indonesia. The leaves of the plant were initially chewed to provide the individual with a boost of energy and overall satisfaction. Kratom was also frequently brewed into a tea. These options are still available, although some might argue there are now much easier ways to enjoy kratom benefits.

In the present, as mentioned before, kratom is generally taken in powder form. This is a powder that can be added to various beverages and other options. There are also capsules available. You will also want to keep in mind that there are different strains of kratom on the market. As you consider the pros and cons of kratom, this is something to take to heart.

Benefits

The more you learn about the possible benefits of taking kratom, the easier it is to understand the enduring popularity of the drug. Smoking kratom has been said to connect you to those benefits as readily as any other method of taking it. Some would even go so far as to claim it is the most effective method.

Its promise to fight chronic pain in a variety of forms if what many believe to be the best of the kratom benefits. This is perhaps the oldest known reason for using kratom in any form or fashion. It has been noted for its ability to help a wide range of people experiencing a wide range of discomforts to manage those problems in a more effective way. At the same time, kratom has also been celebrated for its ability to ease the various symptoms associated with stress and anxiety. While different strains can have different degrees of impact on the individual, and this includes a smokable kratom, you will find that these two particular benefits are consistent among virtually all kratom users.

Furthermore, kratom can boost your immune system, give you more energy, and even help to maintain better blood sugar levels. Another significant benefit to consider is its ability to combat opioid addiction. This is a major reason for its current level of popularity. Many believe that kratom, which includes similar benefits, but with fewer reported side effects, can help to combat the opioid crisis that is going on throughout much of the world.

To reiterate, the benefits listed above should correlate to smoking kratom. There is also the distinct likelihood that kratom is similar to anything else you can smoke. The end result will reach your body much more quickly. Smoking is generally a faster delivery method than ingesting a powder or capsule.

However, there are still some possible kratom side effects to consider. Furthermore, there are also possible side effects of kratom smoking that are entirely unique to that specific approach.

Side Effects

With a little research, you will find that most of the side effects of kratom come down to usage. This is true in the sense of how much you use per dosage, as well as how long you use the drug. Prolonged, heavy kratom use can lead to withdrawal symptoms. In the most extreme cases of kratom abuse, these symptoms can feel on par with opioid withdrawal symptoms. For this reason alone, it is extremely important to use kratom within reasonable limits. This means maintaining reasonable doses, as well as avoiding prolonged use whenever possible.

Anxiety, depression, nausea, and uncomfortable/painful physical changes or sensations can occur when using kratom. Again, this typically occurs when an individual takes more than they should or takes too much for a significant passage of time. First-time kratom users have reported very mild variations of these side effects. Yet in many cases, this was again a matter of taking more than what is considered common for the type of problems the individual would like to address with kratom.

It is also important to note that there are side effects to smoking kratom specifically. For example, while smoking is perhaps a faster delivery system, it is likely that the same dosage one would take in powder or capsule form is too little to be effective in the smokable form. In other words, in order to get any meaningful benefits from smoking, one would have to burn more to get the desired effect. This not only means taking more kratom than perhaps you should, but it also means wasting money on the kratom that is burned up. While kratom is quite affordable, it seems unlikely that anyone would want to spend more than is necessary.

There is also the potential for tar. The leaves themselves contain tar, which means you will be ingesting the substance when smoking kratom. This is not something you have to worry about with kratom in any other form.

Finally, there is some concern that kratom in a smokable form can lead to respiratory problems. However, because so few people smoke kratom, we do not know for sure. One could argue that is a problem unto itself.

Dosage

For most first-time kratom users, the dosage falls somewhere in the 2g to 3g range. Some suggest going as high as 5g, but this is generally not advised. In powder or capsule form, kratom usually begins to work in approximately ten to fifteen minutes.

If you choose to smoke kratom, there is a possibility that you will feel its effects more quickly. Nonetheless, not only is this statement difficult to verify, but one has to remember that smoking also means burning more. Therefore, it is difficult to say how much one would have to smoke to get the benefits they have in mind. This is one of the biggest reasons as to why most experienced kratom users suggest avoiding smoking altogether. It is well within the realm of possibility to smoke too much, which in turn can cause a variety of health issues.

Conclusion

The benefits of smoking kratom are difficult to ascertain, with the exception of the fact that smoking, in general, presents a faster delivery system. However, as we mentioned before, this is not something that can be said for sure. On the other hand, we have a much clearer of the likely side effects of kratom smoking. This includes having to waste more by burning it, ingesting too much to match the dosage of a powder or capsule form, and the presence of tar. For all of these reasons, most kratom users will tell you to avoid smoking at all costs. There simply aren’t any notable benefits to doing so.

Perhaps, worse yet, you have the fact that it isn’t nearly as enjoyable. Kratom smoking is likely to be a harsh, unpleasant smoking experience. It can also be a hassle to break down the leaves to the point of having something you can use. The powder can technically be smoked, but the unpleasantness will probably remain.

There are no significant health consequences to kratom in a smokable form. However, the issues that can spring up can completely override any possible benefits. Whether you are taking kratom for chronic pain, or perhaps for its notable anti-diarrheal powers, it seems probable that you will want to have the most effective experience possible. If that is indeed the case, then there is absolutely no reason to explore kratom in a smokable form. Powders and capsules remain ideal.
